Japanese Cars Are a Good Bet

Japanese Cars Are a Good Bet

I have often wondered what set Japanese cars apart from the others. In fact, such has been their meteoric rise that they overshadowed all other cars from other nations. There was a point in time when Japanese cars far outsold American cars all over the world. And close behind, within nipping distance came the Korean, Swedish and German car makers.

What set them apart was the fact that the Japanese invested heavily into making cars that were extremely reliable and were fuel efficient besides being cheaper. One never had to head to the garage for repairs considering the cutting edge technology these cars came with. The recent spate of incidents where some Japanese cars had to be recalled in bulk for fixing a problem was more the exception than the norm. In a world of fast depleting oil, along with the soaring prices for what were available, turned people towards these cars that were extremely fuel-efficient. Particularly with the recessions and job cuts, it became imperative for people to put a leash on their fuel bills. This, they did with a vengeance. Sales boomed and Japanese car makers laughed all the way to the bank.

I have often wondered at the naivety of large car companies. All they need to do is ask a man on the road what he wants. Then give him what he wants. Instead, they hire companies to do a far flung survey which is done heaven-knows-how and the net root result is an urgent requirement for a car that looks attractive but would never entice me to put my hard earned money on.

The catch is in finding out what the requirement is and giving the consumer just that without the crap. Nobody buys that. The Japanese seem to have got that down to a fine art.
