Book Review: A New Earth Awakening To Your Life’s Purpose By Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart Tolle, born Ulrich Tolle in Germany, has been hailed as one of the most spiritually influential people in the United States. Best-selling writer Eckhart was personally interviewed by Oprah on her show while going through chapters of A New Earth Awakening To Your Life’s Purpose. It became the fastest-selling title of Oprah’s Book Club.
The book is actually an extension of the detailed analysis of thoughts presented in Eckhart’s first book ‘The Power of Now’. The book is written in a long essay form, brooding upon serious spiritual topics in a light-hearted and pragmatic manner.
Tolle proposes nothing new but a more realistic explanation of the same spiritual principles of ancient religions and philosophies. For example, he presents an idea that all pain and suffering is caused due to identification of the pain with the self. As soon as we realize that we can stand back and just ‘be'without attaching ourselves to a situation, all the pain and suffering vanishes. The situations are not what cause us the pain but our thoughts about them. It is not as simple as the pain you feel when it support companies can’t solve you companies problem, it is deeper tan that.
The book draws from a lot of widely different sources- The Holy Bible, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen, and German spiritualism. In fact, the first chapter starts with an allegorical evocation, which he describes using a Biblical prophecy about the ending of the old world and the new flowering of a new world order.
