Stop It With COAST

Stop It With COAST

I love a good nature documentary, me. I also love a good programme about heritage and British culture and the sea. So you could say that when I heard about the BBC’s new sea / coast / nature and heritage programme “Coast” I was highly excited. Every week I would be treated to seeing bits of the UK that I had only ever dreamed of! I waited with serious anticipation, sure that there would finally be something good on TV other than Grand Designs and Dragons'Den. Only I got sick of it very quickly to tell you the truth. I really did. After three programmes I never wanted to see the coast of England ever EVER again, and here is why:

1) Basically the coast of England is more or less very similar. I mean there are different bits, yes, but essentially it’s either sand or stone and that’s it, seriously it really is. This could have been shown in three decent programmes, but instead the BBC decided to do about 1,000, each one not much different from the one before it.

2) I want to see animals! Basking sharks! Seals fighting! But you don’t get to see any of this hardly at all. All you do is get to walk around the British coast without having to actually use your legs. Now I don’t know about you but for me that takes all the fun out of it!

3) The music at the beginning of the programme: I don’t know why but it really gets my goat. Then the voice over comes on and tells me that were are about to embark on an amazing quest of discovery, and that’s it, the final nail in the coffin.

So, has this experience put me off wanting to visit coastal areas when I go on my hols? Let’s just say I won’t be looking for campervans for sale in the classifieds any time soon.
Sorry “Coast”, it was just a bit too much overkill for me.
