Purchasing something? It’s interesting how much things have been changed within the past few years. It previously was that when you were looking to purchase a new watch you would have to head down to the local jewelry store (who you were on a first name basis with), tried on the whole selection, and chose the best one. If you are looking for some running accessories, you would probably want to pick each up and hold in your hand. Then along came the malls, strip malls, and the Wal-Marts. Niche shops started disappearing as did the personal touch and the quality. Nowadays, we do the majority of our shopping on the internet.

It is a surprise, Grandmother and Mom both know how to add things to their shopping carts on Amazon and know how to enter their billing information. Even if you don’t purchase the service or product online, most of the research we do is conducted on the internet. There are many website which offer a review and a rating for the products or services which can be found on the internet. Should you be like the majority of consumers, the process would go something like this:
1.) Scour the review sites and then depending on those reviews search out niche sites that include the opinions of consumers
2.) Decide on a few different options
3.) Perform a search on price, look for coupons and purchase it
It can be easy for time to quickly go by and still be left with a few choices while still wonder which is the best choice.
One great thing about this period of the history of shopping for products and services is there are many chances for a company to truly stand out. Take a look at all the low cost garbage that is available today. We live in a culture that is quick to throw-away and believes that shiny and new is better to have. That it is okay to purchase a new umbrella each year because the cheap one you bought broke the first time you used it. There are a few companies which have risen above this and make quality goods, then stand beside them with amazing customer service and return policies that the “Made in Taiwan” attitude can’t compete with. A great example of this is Zappos.com.

These people sell footwear on the web, provide exceptional items, have awesome customer support and if you don’t fancy shoes UPS just delivered shipping is free each way.
The good thing is quality retailers such as they are available and to find all of them, you simply need to search a great deal harder. Winston Churchill stated “responsibility will be the actual value associated with greatness.” All of us challenge organizations to no longer look at just profits, evaluate their current methods and think about responsibility.
